This question was received from Joe and Amy of Berwyn, Illinois:

" I love your website.  It makes me root for your team.  I wish some of the other hosepeople were so honest and open instead of all this secret agent stuff.  My wife and I are interested in possibly owning some standardbred horses in the future but unless we somehow purchase a bonafide free-for-aller the purse money just isn't there.  What's the latest word on the slot machines at the tracks?... Where is Tim Tetrick?... Is there any way I can tell as a horseplayer if a horse is fractious/jumpy in a good way or a bad way?... Your responses are appreciated."

Joe and Amy,
Owning a standardbred race horse is an exciting venture.  At this point, the purse structure can make it difficult to own horses competing at the lower levels.  Politicians will be politicians and as such, they are still positioning themselves to land on the right side of the gambling issues.  The gambling legislation isn't dead so I guess something might still happen.  The state does need revenue for it's budget.  Tim Tetrick is scheduled to return next Tuesday, June 15th.  It's difficult to determine the personality of a horse during the post parade.  In most cases the horses that are being lead by the outrider are more excited than usual or as we say "up on the bit."  The outrider will lead the horse to give the driver a chance to rest his arms.  Chicago racing moves to Hawthorne July 15th, hope to see you there!
